Should Suicide be allowed in Kenya?

On this blog, we will debate if suicide should be allowed in Kenya or not because: aren't we supposed to have the right to our own lives? Why is it that the government controls us?
Isn't it my life? Join me and hopefully hundreds of people all over the globe so that we can argue out this issue, which in-turn will hopefully raise awareness in the government of Kenya. (just for the record, its not that I want to commit suicide, its just that I don't see why the government doesn't allow us to control our own lives)

The Problem: Detailed

In the draft constitution of Kenya, we can see that there are an uncountable number of changes. The changes in the constitution of course have their advantages and their disadvantages. I chose to look at a problem I feel is a problem. The major problem in the constitution that I feel needs to be “fixed” is Part: 2, Section: 26 about the Right to Life. I feel that this is an issue because the draft constitution of Kenya states that

“Every person has the right to life.” However, when this is said we assume that this means that we can choose to either live or die (commit suicide). Some people strongly feel and believe that suicide is the best way to end misery, so Kenyans have assumed that if I have the right to my own life, I can choose to die, but this Kenyan constitution says that it is a crime to commit suicide and if you are rescued/saved during the time when you are committing suicide, you will then be placed behind bars.

This is a problem because why are not we allowed to commit suicide? After all, it is OUR LIFE!! I control MY life, what right do you have over MY OWN life??? If I want to die I will!! Are you GOD??? You can not control what a person wants to do! So in simple terms, it is a problem because a person can die if they want to…it’s their life…why doesn't the constitution allow this?

This is a real challenge for the people who think that suicide is the best way to end misery because they want to be able to control their own life…because after all, a person’s life should belong to that person.

Suicide is permitted in many countries and illegal in many, to name a few:

India:

In India, attempt to commit suicide is a crime and is punishable relating to Section 309. In India, mostly, many say that it was argued that this law was put in place because it was not permitted in the religions of the leaders.

Ireland

In Irish law, suicide is not a crime but euthanasia is illegal. I think that this was allowed because many people debated on this issue and the government had no choice but to make it legal as the government maybe did not have any evidence to support their choice against suicide.

Just like Ireland, why don't we also put the government in such a situation where they'd have no choice except allow suicide in the constitution! Let us implement this before the voting takes place on August.

A video to support:

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgmFfoEc3J8

In this video, it is discussed weather suicide should be a legal right. From the video, nearly all the comments state that suicide should be legalized, because the people feel that if we can not control our very own lives, then we are slaves. The people’s comments state that at least, assisted suicide should be permitted. If a person is so sick, they have more than 10 years to live, but the pain within them is too unbearable, the operation cured them but the pain is still there, they cant walk, when they talk it hurts, he/she just wants to die, but wants to die peacefully, euthanasia should be allowed for this, euthanasia will give you a very silent death, you might feel sleepy, then go to sleep and never wake up again, but you wont feel any pain in the process and your misery will soon end.

All in All:

I feel that suicide should be allowed in the constitution and if a person wants to commit suicide, they can do it if they want, choosing if it is ethical or not is up-to the person. However, suicide should be allowed in the sense that we are responsible for our own lives and that a person can choose if he/she wants to live or not (This choice starts right after birth or even conception). Euthanasia should be legal, if the person wants to be treated with euthanasia (that is if the person is able to communicate and make the choice), if he/she is not able to communicate, then it is legal for the relatives (especially close ones such as, Father, Mother, Husband/Wife or Children) to decide on their own taking into account weather this is ethical or not according to the ethics of their culture/religion.
